It was a feud that tore a family of bingo players apart – with a massive £1 million lawsuit ending in an out of court settlement. While the settlement has lain to rest much concern and conflict, it is unlikely that the lives of the parties involved will ever be quite the same again.

It all started in 2007, when bingo player Jean McCullagh made a pact with her sister Margaret Cleaugh and sisters-in-law Rose and Jessie McCullagh to split the winnings of any jackpot they may each win. Jean managed to hit the big time at her local Mecca hall in Forge, Glasgow with an incredible £1 million jackpot win, to everyone’s joy. However their elation soon turned to sadness when Jean decided to keep her winnings, instead offering to split the regional prize of £10,000 that had also been won.

The sisters decided to sue Jean for their share of the winnings, on the grounds that she had broken a verbal agreement. After years of court drama, and a huge rift between the family, Jean eventually chose to settle out of court – knowing that she could end up losing her entire fortune if a judge ruled against her. While the drama can now be left behind them, Jean and her sisters have found that bingo jackpot money can come at a price if not handled correctly.
